I'm Too Sexy For My Hair

Beginning on day 10 after my first chemotherapy treatment, my hair started to come out...just a few strands here and there. On day 15 (yesterday), my hair was coming out in tufts. It was gross and kind of freaky to those around me. Personally, I thought it was awesome! It did not hurt, and I could pull out bunches at a time. So, when we went to my brother and sister-in-law's house for the Ohio State game, I thought I would show off my new party trick. My sister-in-law seemed to think it was kinda of crazy and kind of cool when I reached up and pulled out a tuft of hair. On the other hand, my mother-in-law looked like she was going to pass out and cry all at the same time. It was also geeking out my husband. Had I been alone, I would have sat there, watching the OSU game and pulling all of my hair out. Since pulling your own hair out by the handful is not considered socially acceptable, we decided to shave off my hair at halftime. So it goes, now I am one bald babe.

Max,
You are AMAZING!!! C'mon admit it, you wanted this hairdo since you moved to Solon from Shaker! You rebel. Do you feel like breaking out in Sinead tunes all day "Nothing compares to youuuuuuuuuuuuu". I love it, I can't believe it, you truly are beautiful. It's amazing how hair doesn't make or break someones beauty. You have an outstanding attitude!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love you and please if you need anything.... I really don't live that far and I have a wonderful babysitter to watch Rhea and even pick Mya up from the bus, if you need me all day. I am sure your Mom and husband can't go to every chemo, I could come with you and we could share some knitting crap. These are the perks of being a stay at home Mom (helping out friends). Just a thought. Keep up the amazing attitude. I love you and am praying for you.

At least you're an Ohio State fan! I'm a wolverine -- think of how much I wanted to pull MY hair out watching my team on Saturday.

Great pix, and what a great family you have.

(Dawn, LOVE the Sinead reference!)

'sup Smax!

Is it wrong that that I am turned on by the bald thing? Some kind of Sinead/that chick from star trek thing going on. Plus all the lovely wig possibilities!

Kick cancers ass.

Smax - You're awesome girly! I know it's not all smiles and roses, but you certainly have your wits about you. You are the best and I miss you terribly. Wish I could be there for you.

Max - I was hoping that I would defy all odds for hair loss (I am day 13 from my first AC chemo) and still have all my hair but I guess that was just wishful thinking. I like your style - bald is beautiful! I guess in the not to distant future I will be joining the club. Best of luck and with a great attitude we can get through this!

Max,
Your blog was passed on to me by Jenn Gold. I went to Camp Wise (2nd session) in the early 90s. When I saw your pictures I remembered you right away. You were a counselor when I was a camper.

I just wanted to let you know that I work for the American Cancer Society in Chicago. If you ever need anything, I'd be happy to help. You may have already been in touch with them, but if not, I can put you in touch with patient navigators in the Cleveland area that can help you with a wide-array of services, support and information.

It is so great that you are sharing your experience and you are truly inspiring. I'm not really sure how this blog thing works and if you're able to respond back direclty, but if you can't, my e-mail is jennifer.lefkowitz@cancer.org

Maxi,

I am thinking of you today because it is Yom Kippur and I have time to be reflective. You have frequently been in my mind since I heard about your illness. I wanted to let you know I think you are most amazing young woman to open yourself up to the world at this time in your life. Your honesty, sense of humor and awesome family and friends who support you will keep you going and get you through this! I promise! This blog is amazing!

Just know we are thinking and praying for a speedy recovery for you....

PS...You look so much like your mother it is freaky!!!! Just as beautiful for sure!

All my love,
Cheryl Miller
